DARWIN'S SUNSET: BULGARIAN TOUR 2007
DRUTAKARMA PRABHU LECTURES IN BULGARIA
Drutakarma Prabhu's lecture tour in Bulgaria just ended after traveling some 1500 km. He stayed 29 days in Bulgaria, touring to about 14 towns and lecturing in the major Universities of the country. He was also meeting his readers and signing books at ten stores of the biggest chains of bookstores. He met more than 1400 people. The tour was greatly covered by the media, accompanied by publications in the major newspapers, interviews and radio and television appearances, reaching millions of Bulgarians. The TV and radio shows lasted some 15 to 60 minutes. hundreds of his books and the "Origins" magazine were distributed while traveling and lecturing. The Lectures which Drutakarma Prabhu gave include three main topics:
"Hidden History of the Human Rase"
"Human Devolution: A Vedic Alternative to Darwin's Theory"
"Humanity: Origins, Essence and Perspectives"
We, the organizers: Radha-vinoda das, Candrakanti dd, Saci-sundari dd, bh. Niki, called the tour "Darwin's Sunset: Bulgarian Tour 2007". It was generously supported by Ananda Caitanya Prabhu. Barada Hari das and Radha Govinda dd also greatly helped the tour with their personal participation and efforts.
This was the 3rd lecturing visit of Drutakarma Prabhu to Bulgaria. He was discovered by the BARD publishers, who translated and published his "Hidden History of the Human Rase" book maybe for the first time outside US. That happened in 2003. This is when we invited him and organized the First Darwin's Sunset Tour to Bulgaria.
Here are some statistics about that tour:
10 lectures at scientific institutions and universities, like the Bulgarian Academy of Science and the Sofia University;
3 meetings with the readers;
7 media appearances including the most popular TV talk show;
4 press publications.
Later, when his "Human Devolution: A Vedic Alternative to Darwin's Theory" was out in English, the Bulgarian publishers translated this book too. This was the reason for us to invite Drutakarma Prabhu again in 2004. He came and we organized the Second Darwin's Sunset Tour that fall which was very successful.
Here are some statistics on that tour too:
7 lectures at scientific institutions and universities, like the Sofia University and the American University in Blagoevgrad;
6 meetings with readers at bookstores around the country;
17 reports in the TV and radio;
14 interviews for media;
17 publications in the press;
In 2004 Drutakarma Prabhu was given the university medal of honor of the Southwest University of Blagoevgrad.
In the year of 2006 Drutakarma Prabhu came to Bulgaria, being invited by the same devotees. We spend two weeks together, resting at the Bulgarian Black sea coast. Drutakarma Prabhu was working on his writing and enjoyed the Bulgarian weather and nature.
This year we invited him for his third "Darwin's Sunset - Bulgarian Tour". The Tour started a bit peacefully. He did not have many events during the first week of the tour. Some occasional talks here and there. Second part of the tour actually included many of the biggest cities in Bulgaria: Stara Zagora, Kazanlak, Plovdiv, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Russe, Dobrich, Shumen, Varna, Burgas... While traveling we had to hit the road every second day, visiting sometimes two cities in few hours. Such is the case with the lecture at the regional Library of Russe (late in the night) and at the next day we had to get to the city of Dobrich, where Drutakarma Prabhu was lecturing before the students of the International College "Albena". Having hard time finding the way to the town, and having our car broken, we were about an hour late. Still, most of the students and the teachers, including the Rector of the college were patiently wailing for the guest to come. Entering the building some 10-12 journalists surrounded the guest, insisting for interviews. We have to almost by force stop the interviews so that Drutakarma may eventually enter the hall and give a talk to the audience. But this was not the end. He had to jump in the car, which had some hard time with the ignition, and pushed by devotees to start, we traveled to the next town of Shumen, where there was a crowd waiting for us at the Regional Library. Dozens of people were patiently waiting for the guest to come from the long trip, while we were speeding on the highway in the darkness.
At the next day we left for the city of Varna. The talk in the "House of Youth" in Varna was among the most successful lectures for the general public. There some 200 people applauded Drutakarma prabhu and patiently waited in line to get their books signed after the questions and answers part ended.
Pleven was among the towns where meeting the readers in a bookstore was very successful. The hosts had some chairs arranged in-front of the white screen. Drutakarma gave a talk there too and signed many books for his fans.
Very sweet was the lecture at the Club in the village of Skalsko, where local villagers and the British community gathered to listen to the talk and the Bulgarians had some books signed by the author. A gentleman from the village narrated a story of some evidences of the extreme antiquity of the men, witnessed by him. If the man is able to better verify his story, Drutakarma Prabhu may consider it in his future research and writings...
The author's program included a cultural events too. Drutakarma Prabhu was among the special guests of the Veliko Tarnovo University's celebration of the National Revival Day. After meeting the Rector and the vice-rector he went to the main hall of the university for the celebration. At the veliko Tarnovo University he talked before the students and professors of the Historical and judicial and the Philosophy faculties. This day was among the most intense and important parts of the tour program, including two major lectures in one day, partake in the celebration and meeting with the readers later same evening.
In the rare times with no public appearances Drutakarma Prabhu was invited to visit some of the historical and cultural places and institutions of Bulgaria. He visited the Castle Tsarevets and the complex of 22 churches of Veliko Tarnovo - a historical monument in Bulgaria. He was invited to some museums. In Dobrich he saw a skeleton of an ancient Bulgarian buried in a birth position as an expression of the believes of the ancient Bulgarians in life after death or reincarnation as we call it.
Drutakarma Prabhu was also invited to support the environmental protests, so topical these days in Bulgaria. He joined the parade in support of preserving the Rila mountain and the beautiful Irakli at the Black sea coast.
Being in the headlines of the country's news he was often approached by the media. Such is the case with the popular late night talk show of the Bulgarian national Television, called "Piano Bar Night Birds" where the host and the director have his books and are great fans of his. They invited him to be their guest. The program included a surprise since the host invited the owner of BARD publishers. The conversation among the guests and the host was friendly and philosophical. Drutakarma Prabhu talked about the spiritual values of life and the necessity to restore the balance between the material and spiritual sides of life. As always, he contributed all his success to his practice and interests in the ancient Vedic wisdom of India, contributing all to his spiritual master Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Being a subject of great interest the "Darwin's Sunset: Bulgarian Tour 2007" ended this evening, leaving all of us with great expectations about Drutakarma's 2008 Tour to Bulgaria.
At the next day we had a lovely celebration of the Govardhana Puja where Drutakarma Prabhu talked about the meaning of the event. We spent the night enjoying prasadam offered to the Lord and on the 11th of November Drutakarma Prabhu took his flight to Russia for his next lecturing tour.
